"Shake, shake, shake how long does it take til you make, make, make BUTTER?!"
This is the song we sang this past Friday as we sat in a circle on the carpet and made butter! We used heavy whipping cream, a pinch of salt, and a whole lot of shaking to make our butter! It was so neat and exciting to watch it go from liquid when we first started shaking to a complete solid after the last student took their turn shaking!
We discussed how the Indians taught the Pilgrims to live and survive off the land.. We also talked about how they did not have Wal-Marts or grocery stores at that time that they could go buy butter when they needed it. They had to make their own just like we did in class!
After making our butter we put some of it on a roll and tested it out! The kids loved it!! They were so surprised that it actually tasted like butter! We talked about the differences and similarities between the home made version and the store bought. I think the kids enjoyed this activity very much. I know it was definitely a memory that I will never forget!
We finished our afternoon by enjoying a little pecan pie and some cookies!!
