I hope all of my first grade friends (students) and their families had a wonderful day filled with food, fun, love, and laughter with their loved ones!

Making Butter & a Fun Friday!
"Shake, shake, shake how long does it take til you make, make, make BUTTER?!"
This is the song we sang this past Friday as we sat in a circle on the carpet and made butter! We used heavy whipping cream, a pinch of salt, and a whole lot of shaking to make our butter! It was so neat and exciting to watch it go from liquid when we first started shaking to a complete solid after the last student took their turn shaking!
We discussed how the Indians taught the Pilgrims to live and survive off the land.. We also talked about how they did not have Wal-Marts or grocery stores at that time that they could go buy butter when they needed it. They had to make their own just like we did in class!
After making our butter we put some of it on a roll and tested it out! The kids loved it!! They were so surprised that it actually tasted like butter! We talked about the differences and similarities between the home made version and the store bought. I think the kids enjoyed this activity very much. I know it was definitely a memory that I will never forget!
We finished our afternoon by enjoying a little pecan pie and some cookies!!

Pumpkin Patches & a Turkey board!
Below I have posted pictures of the kids with their Art projects that they did about a month ago! Each child had one or two partners that they worked with to create their very own pumpkin patch scene!
I also posted a picture of our bulletin board that has been up for the month of November! The kids traced their feet and hands to make their turkey! They did an awesome job cutting and gluing while putting these together!

Thankful, Hunters, and an Update!
I apologize for no newsletter this week!! We have been busy! We are still working on 3 letter blends. This week we have been working on spr-, str-, and still practicing with squ-. We will take a test on Friday over words with these blends along with the sight words: of, off, many, and other.
In Math we have been working hard on skip counting! Have them practice skip counting at home! They can skip count by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 10's, anything! For example: 3, 6, 9, 12..
DON'T FORGET: No School next week for Thanksgiving break and our 1st grade Christmas program is Tuesday December 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the high school auditorium! Also, Scholastic book orders should be here by Friday so keep an eye out for the books that were ordered in your child's backpack!
Today we talked about what it means to be thankful and brainstormed all of the things that we were thankful for and happy to have in our lives! The kids were so honest with their answers! I posted some pictures below of the kids working intensely on their, "I am thankful for.." pages.
I am thankful that you as a parent trust me with your child every day. I am thankful for the opportunity to teach them and see them smile, learn, and grow! I am thankful for such amazing parents, grandparents, and guardians who do so much to help me and do things for our class! As your child's teacher I am thankful for your support, understanding, and cooperation.
I have also posted pictures of our two friends Trey Smith and Kutter Dollarhide with the bucks they killed a few weeks ago! We are so proud of them!

Halloween Fun!
The day before Halloween one of our favorite people (Mrs. Cathy aka Gran aka The Fossil Lady..haha) came to our class to do a project with the kids!! We made ghosts out of mini marshmallows!!
First, they traced a template of a ghost with their pencil onto their black paper. They got to choose the template they wanted to use!
Next, they dabbed their marshmallow onto some glue and stuck it right on the pencil line! After putting so many marshmallows down on their pencil line she would stop them and say, "STOP, now pick up 2 marshmallows and put then in your mouth!" The kids LOVED this project and so did I! It was so cute and FUN, and we were able to practice counting during the process!
Also, we greatly enjoyed our unhealthy day on Halloween!! Thank you to everyone who sent treats for the class! That was so kind of you! We started our unhealthy day with some monster donuts and a kool-aid. The kids loved them and wore their vampire teeth throughout the whole day!! Thank you to Cori Dellinger and her mom for the donuts!!
