Pizza Party

THANK YOU for trimming and sending all those Box Tops!!! We WON the pizza party for Elementary!! You all are AMAZING! This was definitely a team effort on all of our parts!  I appreciate all of your hard work in helping our class win this contest! We should be having our Pizza Party very soon!

Now, time to collect and send in more Box Tops for our new contest that will end at the end of this 9 weeks in December!! REMEMBER, I have tons of Box Tops collection sheets in our classroom for your child to take home ANY time you need them or you can just trim them and put them in a ziploc bag.

Thank you again!

Fire Safety

National Fire Prevention week was the week of October 5th-11th.  During that week we had the opportunity to listen to some local firefighters who shared some very important fire safety tips.  They also shared lots of other great information about ways the children can stay safe if they are in ever in a dangerous situation with fire. The children even got to practice crawling through a smoke filled room and climbing down from a window.  Here are some pictures I took from that day.  Sorry I forgot about them and am just now sharing them!

A Few Reminders

This week is a busy week with many due dates throughout the week.  I have put all of these dates on the weekly class newsletter that will go out tomorrow but, if you are anything like me I need as many reminders as I can get.

Scholastic Book Order

Our October Scholastic Book Order went home today!  The order is due by Friday October 17th.  You can order online with our class code: J7TXP or send me a check made out to Scholastic Reading Club.  Also, if you are ordering online you can order from many other book orders not just the ones I sent home.  This allows for a wider variety of books to choose from! Thank you.

MATH TEST TOMORROW

Tomorrow we will take a Math test over the most recent 10 Math lessons that we have had in class.  There will only be 4 problems on this test.  Three of the questions are word problems.  There are 2 things that your child MUST do on those problems in order to get full credit (total amount of points) for that question.  They must:

1.  SHOW their answer.  This means that I need to be able to clearly see their answer when looking at their page.

2.  They must EXPLAIN how they got their answer using either pictures, numbers, or words.

We did practice these things today and review for the test.  They have been working very hard every day and I have equipped them with all the tools they need to be successful on this test, but please remind them of these very important things tonight before we test in the morning!

Also.. PLEASE make sure they can write a number in expanded form (300+50+2=352), word form/number names (three hundred fifty-two), and unit form (3 hundreds 5 tens 2 ones).

Those are things that I have been working on with them every single day!

Thank you for your cooperation!

SOCKTOBER

Dear Parents,

Our class is going to be participating in Kid President's "Socktober" service project.  For the whole month of October we will be collecting donated socks and other items such as jackets, blankets, and any other clothing items that may help keep someone warm during the Winter season.  We will collect these items in our classroom and at the end of the month I will take them all to one of the many homeless shelters in Hot Springs.  The kids are very excited about the opportunity to help others in our area.  These items do not have to be bought brand new from a store.  These items can be things you already have at your house that are not being used maybe because they are too big, too small, or you just do not use them any more.  We are looking forward to seeing how many items we can collect!  Here is the link that gives more details on what Socktober is and also has the same video that we watched this morning to help explain it to the kids!

Thank you for your help! Just like Kid President says.. "The time to be awesome is NOW!"
