November Treat Day
Here are some great pictures and a video from our November Treat Day which was Friday November 21st. The first thing we did was MAKE BUTTER! With a little heavy whipping cream, a dash of salt, and a whole lot of shaking we made our very own butter! After we made the butter then we put it on rolls so we could try it out. Some students gave me a thumbs up because they liked it, some were unsure how they felt, and some just really did not like the taste. After that we had a pumpkin pie taste test activity. Everyone (even me-who did not think I liked pumpkin pie but had never really tried it) got a small piece and tasted at least one little bite. We had a wonderful time!

How To Blow A Bubble
We have been learning all about and working on Procedural writing or as we sometimes call it.. "How To.." writing. This is where we write and explain in detail how to do something. We use transitional words in our writing such as: First, Next, Then, After That, Finally, etc. We also found that it is very important that the steps be in order. Also, it is good to add pictures at times to help the reader understand. Normally, I do not allow the kids to have or chew gum in our classroom.... BUT-Today we did "How To Blow A Bubble". We took it one step at a time and wrote each step down as we did it. We learned that sometimes it can be easy to skip steps if you are not careful. The goal is to make the writing detailed enough so that someone else could read it and do it themselves. Here are some pictures from our procedural writing experience today! Some bubbles were small and some were BIG! If we were to have had a contest Lily definitely would have won! She had huge bubbles every time!! Not every one has mastered the bubble blowing yet, but that is ok. They still had fun trying!
The kids insisted that I take a "selfie" with the bubble that I blew... They also requested that I post it on the blog with their pics. So, here it is..
Leaf Hunt
On Friday November 7th, we took a break from our normal routine and went outside to go on a leaf hunt. We walked all around the campus looking for different kinds of unique, colorful leaves to put in our ziploc bag. Here are some pictures I snapped while we were out searching for beautiful leaves. After we collected our leaves we went back inside and I taught the kids how to make a leaf rubbing. We had a great time. Have I mentioned how awesome my students are lately?? THEY ARE SO AWESOME!!!!!!

No Name Papers
Dear Parents,
The very first thing the students are supposed to do when given an assignment of any kind is put their name on their paper. Sometimes I take papers up by hand and sometimes they are instructed to turn their paper in to the correct work basket (Math, Reading, Lang. Arts). Either way I always remind them by saying, "Please make sure your name and date is your paper before turning it in or handing it to me." Many times I give that reminder more than once. Also, right above our work baskets is this sign..

Yet I am still spending much of my time on the weekends searching through student work trying to figure out whose paper is whose. This is a habit that they should have already learned. The students know about this problem and I have been telling them for the past 2 months that I was going to start taking points off if they would not put their names on their papers. I will now be taking off 5 points for any paper that does not have a name on it. For ex: If they had made a 100 on an assignment then it would turn into a 95. Hopefully this will catch their attention and cause them to slow down and check first before turning their papers in. If your child is one who has trouble with this and seems to forget often please discuss this with them.
Thank you for your cooperation and as always if you have any questions about this please contact me at kpoole@flcobras.com.

Happy Halloween!
We had a very fun day on Friday. That morning we got to go out in the hall and pass out candy to the Pre-K students who came to Trick or Treat in our building. Then, at lunch we enjoyed our Pizza Party from the PTO for winning the Box Tops competition. Finally, that afternoon we had our 2nd Treat Day. The students got to make things from a variety of candy supplies (oreos, pretzels, m&m's, chocolate chips, and more). Below are some pictures of the very creative treats that they made! Thank you to everyone that sent items for our Treat Day!
