Candy Canes in Class!

On Friday we explored our 5 senses with candy canes! The candy canes were all different colors and flavors! As we examined each sense the students completed a sheet to record what they seen, smelled, heard, felt, and tasted.

First, they used their sight to look at their candy cane! They had to draw and color exactly what their candy cane looked like and what they seen!

Next, they took the plastic wrapper off and smelled their candy cane! After thoroughly smelling it they had to circle words that described what their candy cane smelled like!

Then, they had to touch their candy cane and circle words that described exactly what it felt like! Ex: hard, soft, sticky, slimy, etc.

The best part (to me) was watching them use their ears to listen to their candy canes! For 2 whole minutes our classroom was completely silent and every child in the room was holding their candy cane right next to their ear to see if they could hear anything! Most students circled no they did not hear anything but one little girl heard her candy cane making the noise, ssssssssssssss and my favorite was a little boy who said that his candy cane was jammin'. Love their creativity!

Finally their favorite part was when they got to taste their candy canes and circle words that described how their candy canes tasted!

Thank you Mrs. Leeby for creating and sharing the investigation sheet that we used to go with this activity!

This was such a fun project and great way to end our day after a morning and afternoon packed full of mid year assessments!

Naughty Elf !

On Thursday David brought the students elf kisses to help them be good! Each student got 2 kisses that morning to help them make good choices! Then, after lunch he had jumped in the bowl with a sign that said "all myn"! Kids were not happy about this since they were hoping to get more elf kisses after lunch! They decided he was not a nice elf and needed to learn how to spell!

On Friday when we came in David had moved all the students clips down to 0 on the behavior chart and made a clip for himself and put it on 6! The kids were NOT pleased about this either! When I went to move the clips back the kids about lost it screaming that I could NOT touch the clips with my bare hands because they had magic elf dust on them! They insisted that I take extreme precautionary measures to move the clips back. So.. I put my gloves on, the children let out a sigh of relief, and all was right in the world (our classroom) again! :)

Box Tops Winner & David Returns!

Congratulations to our friend Robby Walraven for being one of the winners of the "Box Tops Bash" ! Below is a picture of him and his new scooter that he won!

On Monday morning we found David hanging out above the smart board!

On Tuesday he was in the Christmas tree and brought us a new ornament! It was a gingerbread man holding a Folgers coffee cup! I guess he knows how much I love coffee! ;)

On Wednesday morning we found David near our AR score board and he had messed it up completely by removing the kids pictures from their current location and scattering them all over the board! He also had a special letter with him that said, "Please today be extra sweet and maybe tomorrow you will get a treat!" We are all looking forward to seeing where he will be in the morning!

Our Classroom Christmas Tree!

I hope everyone enjoyed their snow/ice day on Friday! Thankfully we had already taken our spelling test on Thursday and put up our classroom Christmas tree!

Every student got an opportunity to put one or two ornaments on our tree which is decorated in bright green, purple, & silver! Other than the tree skirt and the bows on top the kids decorated the entire thing!

Oh and late Wed night David had made his way from our centers chart to above the door. We think that he was wanting to be our next Star student!

A surprise from Santa..

This morning Mrs. Deloney brought a big Christmas gift bag to our room. She told us that Santa had delivered it for us overnight!! The room went silent and the kids' eyes became as big as baseballs! What could be in this bag from Santa himself we all anxiously wondered!

We gathered on the carpet and let our VIP (Sebastian) open the bag to see what was inside! Santa brought us an Elf on the Shelf book and sent us one of his very own elves to help keep an eye on us in the classroom! Our elf came with a special letter that was also from Santa. After we read our book we took a vote and named our elf... David! Notice in the pictures below that he does have a special jersey on so we think he is definitely an athlete of some kind!

We are fairly certain that he did move while I was out of the room and the kids were at recess. That David is very sneaky. Today was a very exciting day and tomorrow will be too as we will be putting up and decorating our classroom Christmas tree!!
