Another Birthday & Our 1st Star Student

September is FULL of birthdays in our class!! Happy Birthday (last Saturday) to our friend Ava Wicke!

& Congratulations to our very first Star Student Lakenya Williams! She enjoyed a nice lunch on the stage with her mom last Friday!

Cheerleaders, Clocks, & Dictionaries

Our very own cheerleaders supporting the Panthers!

Your children should have brought home the clocks we made in class last week!  We had a great deal of fun practice telling time with those clocks! We will continue to review and practice time throughout the whole year!  Here are a few students with their clocks!

Earlier this week we learned how to use our student dictionaries and practiced using them!  The students will be using dictionaries in our class DAILY to help them find out what a word means, how it is spelled, & how to pronounce it! I LOVE how independent they are becoming already!! I am so proud to be their teacher!! They are so awesome and brilliant!

Thank you all so very much for your continued support and help at home! I appreciate you! :)

Book Orders, Fossils, & Gummy Bears Oh My!

I sent three book orders home yesterday! These orders are due on Friday Sept. 27th! Please order online if you can, but if you can't please send a check made out to Scholastic Reading Club. Code to order online is J7TXP!

Every day after recess we read a series of books called "The Magic Tree House" books. Whenever we hear or come across new words we do not know or haven't heard before we write the word and ashort definition  down in our Magic Tree House Journal which is behind a purple sticky note at the back of our travel log! Once we have finished the book I write down all of the words that they wrote down in their travel logs and put them on a paper with the cover of that book! This page goes up on our "Vocab" board which is by the writing center so that the kids can use these words in their writing!

The first book from this series that we finished about two weeks ago was all about dinosaurs! Yesterday we had a special guest come to visit our room!   Trey Smith's grandmother Kathy Jeans brought all sorts of fossils to share with our class.  She also brought some pictures of dinosaur fossils to show us and shared some wonderful information and stories! The kids LOVED every minute of it!

After that the kids got to create their own fossils using gummy bears and bread!  This project was so neat! They put the gummy bears face down in the bread and left them there for a little bit.  Next, they took the gummy bears out of the bread and could see the imprint of the gummy bear in the bread!

Last but not least they got to EAT their gummy bears and bread!

Some even made a gummy bear sandwich!!

Thank you so much Mrs. Jeans !

Classroom Jobs & Free Books

Each student in our room has a new job each week.  Every job is very important to ensure that our room is neat and runs smoothly every day! Be sure and ask your child what their job is this week and what they are doing to help out in our classroom!

This is what our classroom jobs board looks like!  Every Monday morning the students come check this board to see what their job and responsibilities will be for the week!

Thank you so much to all of the parents who have ordered books from our Scholastic book order!  When you order books for your child I get points in my account!  With those points I am able to get books for FREE for our classroom library!  I picked out books that I knew the kids would like and had shown interest in!  I was also able to get some new listening books and cd's for our listening center!! This is a picture of what I ordered with my points the last time! Thank you again for ordering!

Center Time, Counting, & a Champion

While some students are at my table for reading groups the rest of the students are at centers! The students really enjoy working at each center with their partner and have been doing a great job too! I a very proud of them! The centers in our classroom are a little different than Kindergarten, but after plenty of practice the children have done a wonderful job adjusting and learning!

We have an iPad center..

When the children get on the iPad this is the screen they see..

All of the apps on our classroom iPads are educational and organized into categories like create, books, Math, Words, Writing, Science, etc.  This helps the students find a particular app quicker!  Also, because there are so many wonderful apps that I want the students to try out and work on we have an iPad schedule.  On Mondays they can use any of the apps in row 1, Tuesday row 2, Wednesday row 3, Thursday row 4, & on Fridays they have free choice to get on any row or app they want.  This schedule ensures that students do not just stay on the same app each time they are at the iPad center and requires them to work on different skills!

Next is the Math center..

At the Math center the first thing students do is get a worksheet out of the top drawer! This worksheet is for independent practice and will always be something they can work out on without having to come to my table to ask for help! The next thing they complete is a counting sheet and then they can work on fun stuff, math games, flash cards, etc.

Writing center..

Like at the Math center the students get a writing page out of the top drawer to complete then they can get extra writing paper and write about anything!

The classroom library is one of their favorite places to be!

Big Books..

Computer center.. And the word work center

We also have a listening center and smart board center!

When the students do have an extra minute or two at the end if the day, they LOVE to count!

Caught you counting!

Congratulations to our very own Kutter Dollarhide for winning the mutton bustin competition at the Foreman rodeo!  We knew you could do it, and we are all so proud! He even wore his big, shiny buckle to school last Tuesday to show all of us his prize and tell us about his experience!
