Bowling Trip, Author's Tea, & a Mother's Day surprise
Sounds we are working on this week are the oo, ew, and, ue sounds! For example words like clue, booth, and crew. This week we begin end of year Reading, Spelling, and Math assessments and will continue this process off and on for the next few weeks!
DON'T FORGET our field trip to go bowling is this Wedneday! Every child needs to wear tennis shoes, bring $3.00 if they haven't already, and bring 2 bottled drinks with lids!
AUTHOR'S TEA! 1st grade is having an Author's Tea on Friday May 24th at 1:00 pm! Parents will come to the class so the children can show you their writing portfolio from this year, and then we will all go down to the cafeteria so the children can share their stories they have written! For this event children are encouraged to dress like their favorite character from a book or story or for example if my students would like to dress up like the animal they have researched and wrote about that would be wonderful too! :)
Mother's Day is coming up and your child will be working hard all week on a few special surprises for you! Here is a little glimpse of a project we worked on today!!

2 kids & 1 piece of construction paper
A while back, at the end of the day I partnered the students up and gave each pair of kids 1 piece of construction paper. I told them I wanted to see who could make the longest chain out of 1 piece of paper! We talked about some of the things they might need to think and talk with their partner about before they just started cutting! Some of the other items that they had to work with were scissors, paper clips, tape, pencils, & rulers. Blakelee Adams and Jala Richard ended up with the longest chain by cutting their strips of paper skinnier so they would have more links in their chain! We measured with rulers to see exactly how long each chain ended up being! Below are pictures of students working and of the end results!
Busy, Busy, Busy !
First of all good luck to all of the first grade students competing in the Battle of the Books competition tomorrow! We are proud of them and know they will do a great job!
We are on the down hill slope now with just 20 days of school left! The children have worked so hard all year long and now it is time to reward them with a few field trips and fun days! Here are the events that are on our schedule for the next few weeks!
Next Wednesday May 8th- we are going bowling and then going to the park at Four States fair grounds for a picnic! Permission slips for this field trip were sent home yesterday! They need to be signed and returned along with $3 for bowling!
Friday May 17th is our Spring Spectacular at the school!
Monday May 20th is our field trip to the big Wells Fargo bank in Texarkana then to Outback for lunch!
Wednesday May 29th is Park Day when we will spend the whole day at the city park!
Friday May 31st is the last day of school!
If you have any questions about any of these events or trips or if you would be able to volunteer to help at Spring Spectacular please contact the office at 870-898-3711 or email me at kpoole@ashdownschools.org

Planets research, pizza patrol, & a limo ride!
I apologize that it has been so long since the last update! I have been a little under the weather lately!
I sure hope that they showed you their "Planets book" that they made! They spent a whole week doing research about all the planets on the iPads, computers, and in books! I was so proud of them and how hard they worked! Their books turned out amazing! There are a few pictures below of some of the children working on their planets books!
CONGRATULATIONS to the students from our room who had perfect attendance for the third nine weeks, and our very own Bo Troup was awarded Pizza Patrol!! Mrs. York and I traveled to his house and delivered pizza to Bo and his family!
CONGRATULATIONS to the King and Queen of our classroom for selling the most raffle tickets, Caleb Brooks and Blakelee Adams! Blakelee is also the Queen for first grade for being the girl that sold the most raffle tickets overall! Also, since our class sold the most of all the first grade classes our WHOLE class got to ride in the Hummer Limo last Friday morning! The kids and I felt famous as we rode around town with everyone standing outside taking our picture and waving at us! Thank you to everyone who helped sell raffle tickets to raise money for our Spring Spectacular!
